- The small group of Christians introduced ‘New Vision’ of humanity that did not exist in the Greek or Roman Culture. Christianity presented a God who loves those who love him to the pagan world. In pagan Roman, the gods had little interest in the people who worshiped them.
- There is no rank or ethnicity among Christians believers. Christianity introduced a new vision of human relationship in which a slave master calls a slave his brother.
- The God of the Christians demonstrates his love through sacrifice and teaches that Christians must love and serve others. This was not the case in the Roman Empire. Pagan Roman didn’t love anybody apart from their families and people of their own social class.
- Rome was well known for its cruelty. This was contrary to the Christian belief in the merciful God who also requires mercy. So Christians shone clearly as light in the midst of gross darkness.
- Abortion and infanticide was standard practice in Rome. Christianity rejected infanticide and abortion.
- In the new Christian religion men were to love their wives as they loved themselves. Christianity brought freedom from oppression. Whereas, in the Roman society wives and children were seen as property. Christians loved people whether they were believers or not. Christians stressed love and charity as the central duties of faith.
